Working Together

Meeting with a financial advisor is the first step in the financial planning process, and we hope it leaves you feeling more confident about your financial future. We understand, however, that many new clients are not quite sure what to expect at their first meeting. For example, what should you bring?

The first meeting will be a conversation that will allow you and the advisor to get to know one another by focusing on your current situation and future dreams. Moving forward, your Ameriprise financial advisor will continue to have discussions about all aspects of your financial situation and how it relates back to your dreams and goals.

What to expect

While every client meeting is unique, during the first meeting, an advisor will usually:

  • Provide a history of Ameriprise Financial and our unique Dream > Plan > Track >® approach
  • Explain the financial planning process
  • Identify your goals and any financial concerns you may have

What to bring

For the first meeting with an advisor, we suggest you bring the following:

  • A list of any questions you have regarding your current financial situation
  • Supporting documents for accounts or areas of your financial picture that you feel deserve immediate attention
  • A list of future dreams and goals you would like to achieve, including both short- and long-term goals
