Community participation

With family ties in Chesterton, Indiana dating back to the 1920s, I love our community and do much volunteer work to help keep it strong.

After graduating from CHS, I went to the University of Wisconsin on a wrestling scholarship where I had a successful college career. I am grateful to be able to give back to CHS wrestling program where I serve as a volunteer assistant coach.

Also, since 2002 I have served on the board member for Rebuilding Together - Duneland, an affiliate of the nation's largest volunteer home rehabilitation organization. We help our neighbors in need by improving the safety and health of their homes.

Interests

  • Jenny and I have three boys, and I have had the good fortune of being able to coach many of their baseball, football and wrestling teams. As a former college wrestler, I am most passionate about this sport and helping the youth I work with get the opportunity to experience new opportunities that might not otherwise be present for them.
  • I enjoy running, lifting weights, and mountain biking in an effort to stay young.
  • I'm trying to cure my "black thumb" and have limited (yet improving) success gardening.
  • I enjoy traveling with my family whether it's Big Ten campuses during wrestling season or national parks during the summer.
