Community participation

Dick Miller is a long-time supporter of the visual arts, most recently as a Director's Circle member of the Smithsonian's Freer Sackler Galleries. Dick's wife is the director of the Ackland museum at UNC Chapel Hill. Dick supports Heartbeet, a community of adults with developmental disabilities who live and work together in a therapeutic agricultural residence in the hills of Vermont where his brother, a skilled carpenter, has built residential housing.

  • My wife and I are actively involved in the visual arts. Some of our favorite museums include the Smithsonian Institution's Freer and Sackler Galleries, the Reitberg in Zurich, The Rubin in NYC, Cleveland Art Museum, Clark Art Institute in MA and the Ackland at UNC Chapel Hill.
  • We enjoy spending time in Craftsbury, Vermont where we practice sculling at the Craftsbury Rowing Center.
  • Favorite recent books: Josef Albers: Interaction Edited by Heinz Liesbrock, The Lumbee Indians: An American Struggle by Malinda Lowery.
  • Breathtaking moment: The First International Sufi Music Festival Rajasthan, India
